Strangers

“Hello” “How are you?”

A smile, a nod, a quick glance into someone’s eyes. Rushing thoughts about what could have or should have been said. Three second interactions, sometimes less than that. Not everyone has that electrifying desire of intimacy with someone you know absolutely nothing about. I could look at someone and think “Can you save me?” “Can you fix something in my life?” “Can you make my life a little brighter?” that need of fulfillment even when there isn’t a hole to fill. Why do I want to know your name? Why do I want to invite you into my home?

Strangers at the supermarket? Harmless. New neighbor? Danger.
